Reel Anatomy

The basic terminology used with fishing reels:

  1. Pillar
  2. Raised Pillar
  3. Head Plate (hard rubber in this case)
  4. Crank Knob
  5. Crank or Handle
  6. End Cap, Oil Cap, Bearing Cap
  7. Crank Nut or Crank Screw
  8. Counterbalance Weight
  9. Foot Plate or foot
  10. Spool Flanges
  11. Tail Plate

Notes

All reel parts have names that collectors should learn. Some names are used interchangeably, and you should familiarize yourself with these names.
