Automatic Reels
Meisselbach automatic reels were not as innovative at many of their other
reels. The first model (1911) did have some patentable features, and was
typical of previous Meisselbach reels: It was stout and dependable. The
second model reel - the "New Improved Automatic" is very scarce - I have
only seen one example.

This is the first version of the Meisselbach Automatic
Reel. It was patented in 1914, and is very heavy as most of the
construction is German silver. The box on the left has a Kingfisher
(Edw. K. Tryon, Phila.) label pasted over the same label as on the box
on the right. The reel is also marked Kingfisher. Both reels are new in
box. This model was made from 1911-1918 |

Automatic #655. This reel was made from 1928-1939. The
left hand box is the earliest model. |
 |
Autofly #660. This model was made to be used as a trout
fly reel, and is narrower than the #655 above. It was manufactured from
1929-1939 |

Notes |
| Automatic reels are
probably the least collectible of all the Meisselbach reels.
The first model is quite collectible
due to its German silver construction. The second version is by far the
most valuable, however, due to its rarity. |
