The River - 2008

This year I purchased a new Canon digital camera with a pivoting LCD screen so that I could take self portraits of me and my fish - rather than just photos of flopping fish lying on the boat's deck. I like these photos better, even though they do include some grey-beard old geezer.

May 23rd. This 20" fish was my first really good smallmouth in 2008. It also illustrates why I got a new camera. This fish is not dead and was successfully released to be caught again. It was caught with the tackle shown. A St. Croix Legend Elite 6' rod and a Daiwa Pixy reel. The 4" worm was on a 1/8 oz jighead.
Raccoons are common along the river bank. This guy was quite intrigued by my drifting boat with a brown haired Boykin eyeing him from the front deck.
July 21. Channel Catfish are common in the river. Shown here is an average size Channel that took the plastic crawdad shown. The catfish "pole" is a GLoomis GLX rod, with a Daiwa Steez reel.

During the year I usually keep enough 13-14 inch smallmouth for 2 meals.  I also keep many of the Channel Cats in this size range, as they are very good eating.

October 24th. This very hefty fish measured 20" and weighed a bit under 5 pounds - well, actually 4.75 pounds. I was fishing a drop shot rig with a Roboworm Sculpin. It was a very strong fighter and I thought it might weigh a bit more than it did.
